The Canadian Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes Conference

The conference brings together Canadian and international multidisciplinary healthcare professionals to advance diagnosis and treatment for Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes (EDS) subtypes, with a focus on hypermobile EDS and Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders (EDS/HSD+)- Creating meaningful impact on patient care and clinical outcomes.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Conference attendees will be able to:

  • apply current evidence to improve the diagnosis and management of EDS, hEDS and HSD and related comorbid conditions and improve quality of life
  • interpret diagnostic investigations relevant to the multisystem involvement in EDS
  • integrate multidisciplinary and coordinated models of care across primary, rehabilitation, and specialty settings
  • identify and address gaps in personal clinical practice and develop plans for ongoing professional learning
  • Recognize and identify the illness clusters associated with Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes (EDS) and other Heritable Disorders of Connective Tissue.
  • Construct a practical approach for office-based screening of individuals with EDS with co-existent Dysautonomia, Gastrointestinal Dysmotility, Mast Cell Disorders, and neurological impairment caused by Cervical Cranial Instability (CCI), Atlanto-Axial Instability (AAI), Chiari Malformation, Tethered Cord, Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS), spinal fluid leaks, and Spontaneous Intercranial Hypotension (SIH).
  • Describe the best-evidence informed approach for management of multisystemic manifestations in Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes and other Heritable Disorders of Connective Tissue.
  • Express compassion and empathy in healthcare delivery to develop living patient/physician partnerships for improved quality of life.

Educational Methods

Educational strategies include plenary lectures, case-based discussions, patient narratives, and interactive dialogue to support knowledge translation and practice change.
